The proposed redevelopment of an under-utilised, 0.22ha former tyre centre site on Victoria Cross Road, Cork City to provide 40 no. student accommodation apartments (ranging in size from single bed studio apartments to 8-bed apartments) comprising a total of 243 no. bed spaces and ranging in height from 5 to 10 storeys. The design takes the form of an urban cluster comprising 3 blocks of varying heights around a central courtyard which links to the Curragheen River amenity area. The strategy allows for physical and visual permeability providing for a range of access/connection points as well as a variety of views in and out of the site.

A simple palette of robust materials of brick screen and metal windows, doors, balustrades and infill panels and screens combine to create a building which is striking yet simple in appearance while being appropriately scaled in relation to its surrounding context.
