The proposal is based on the redevelopment of a under-utilised residential area in Wilton, Cork City. the design proposed three separate blocks arranged around a landscaped courtyard to create a campus type environment suitable for student living. The strategy respects the requirement for suitable set-backs from the surrounding river and housing estates.
Student common area and reception is located at ground floor level, directly visible from the entrance to the site. Private and shared open spaces are provided by recessed balconies and landscaped courtyard. Generously scaled openings in the facade create a sense of openness and relative transparency. The overall form and mass of the project is mediated through three individual blocks that step in height from four to six storeys.
